As we await the first legal sale of marijuana in New York State , the Governor has unveiled a marijuana business and product verification tool, with plans to post a QR code on licensed cannabis retailers and a universal symbol label for authorized cannabis products. This code will be in the front window of every legal store, and it will provide consumers and the local community information about the licensee. A similar version will be provided for businesses that decide to take advantage of delivery services.

The Non-Profit AIDs assistance group, Housing Works, aims to open the City’s first dispensary, on the corner of 8th Street and Broadway, in a closed GAP store. Each regulated and tested marijuana product will feature a universal symbol, distinguishing them from illicit items that are sold in the unregulated market.

These symbols will attest to a product that is both tested and inspected. Fentanyl-laced marijuana has become a growing danger. Street marijuana has been found to contain Lead or other heavy metals, fungus, methamphetamine, PCP, and even embalming fluid. Be safe, look for the symbol when you buy.
