Have a Heart

For reasons too complex to describe here, the childhood message to me was that I didn’t have a heart. So perhaps that is why I was so shocked when I noticed the sweetest feeling arising. I laughed with joy and relief when I realized that, at last, I was falling in love with my own heart. It was an unequivocal enjoyment of what was here in this moment and a complete ease in the depth of my being.

For most of my life, stillness eluded me. I struggled to be present in any moment, to experience joy or comfort, let alone peace. My mind was a relentless scanning machine, forever searching for what was wrong or what came next.

Well, it’s winter and as everybody knows ‘tis the season when we suffer from dry skin. I had a condition where my skin felt as if it was being stung by a thousand bees. My dermatologist determined I had dry skin and a fungal infection. Yuck! I got the cream she prescribed and eventually the yuck went away.

Turning 80!

On July 7, 2025 I was ecstatic to turn 80. I had survived almost dying of amoebic dysentery in the Peace Corps in the 60s.

Pass the New York Health Act

For about 30 years, progressive politicians in New York State have been advocating for the New York Health Act. It would establish a single payer state-run insurance program that would provide medical coverage for everyone in the state and eliminate the need for private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and virtually all out of pocket costs for the public. But why is such a program needed?
