Sam’s Deli on West 4th Street

BEST DEAL IN THE VILLAGE

Photo and text by Arthur Z. Schwartz.

Half-way between the two most historic intersections in Greenwich Village, on West 4th Street between West 11th and Perry Street (275 West 4th Street) is a 40 year landmark of its own, Sam’s Deli. Sam started this deli over 40 years ago in quite a different West Village. Sam retired in 2019, but passed the store on to his son, Sam Jr. It has outlasted numerous higher end shops around it. Coffee is still only $1.50. And if you are a regular and come in for breakfast or lunch, the minute you walk in your meal is already being made (they have ESP and know when you are coming.) Open 6am till midnight, 7 days a week.
