The Portal Interactive Sculptures

New Yorkers exchange live greetings with Dubliners in an interactive media/art project connecting two continents. “The Portal,” is a pair of interactive sculptures in NYC’s Flatiron Public Plaza and Dublin, Ireland. These sculptures, created in partnership with the Flatiron NoMad Partnership, the Simons Foundation, and NYC DOT Art, feature livestream video linking the two cities. The project’s aim is to be a testament to the power of art to transcend physical barriers and to connect people from across the world. The Portal was closed temporarily due to inappropriate behavior by individuals from both nations but is now open again for viewing during daytime hours.
