July 13 was the grand opening of Greenwich Village’s newest purveyor of dog care at 178 Christopher Street. It has been a long, difficult process to get the new store set up in the new building, but the services portrayed on their website, https://www.dogtownnyc.co, are now fully available. (Note, a similar website of https: www.dogtownny.com is an unrelated business.)

Colin Hunter, Julie Hunter, and Greg Sgammato are the co-founders. From running a successful dog walking, boarding, and training company serving lower Manhattan since 2018, it was a natural progression for the owners to open up their own brick and mortar space. They were able to design it with a layout to meet their needs. Inside the wide glass entry doors is the reception area with displays of merchandise and windows looking into the dog run and the grooming area. The small-dog run behind the large showroom windows is sculpted like a skateboard park and is finished in seamless hygienic flooring surfaces for easy maintenance. The large lower level is almost entirely devoted to the large-dog run, also seamlessly covered in the same hygienic material. The lighting will be programmed for circadian rhythm mimicking daylight patterns.

Dogtown is offering doggy daycare for half and full day, overnight dog boarding, dog grooming, dog walking, positive-reinforcement dog training, and a variety of training classes for proper socialization for dogs of all ages.

As Colin has said, “Our goal is to be the highlight of your dog’s day while you are busy, and our crew of dog lovers is hand selected and trained to do just that. We knew we would be providing a local service for dogs in the area but didn’t realize the joy we would be spreading to the West Village residents- it’s become a daily activity for many to stop by and watch the dogs in the window, and so many have said it’s the highlight of their day!”

Check it out. Come and say Woof! to all the friendly dogs and people.

“Colin is a dog whisperer and dog lover, also a phenomenal dog trainer. I’ve seen him change dogs whose owners thought there was no hope for. I’ve witnessed the before and afters. It’s amazing! Life changing. Please bring your baby by for an evaluation. You’ll see for yourself!”
