VILLAGE PET PAGES
Lola

“I want to go, too!” Lola in Kelly Craig’s suitcase. Photos by Kelly Craig.
Lola stole our hearts while we were having a meeting at Kelly Craig’s home. Kelly was getting ready to travel so her suitcase was still on the floor with Lola laying in it. “Once the suitcase comes out,” Kelly said, “she knows I’m leaving and she jumps in—as if she wants to go.”
We would like to introduce this adorable cat to our Village View (VV) readers, so here’s our conversation with Kelly (KC).
KC: I always wanted a Russian Blue cat, but I also wanted to adopt one who needed a home. I found Lola online. She was being fostered in Connecticut and she was brought to the uptown Manhattan Petco so we could meet her. She had been found on a back street in Brooklyn without a home, nursing a kitten. I took the kids to meet her to see if we were the right fit. It was love at first sight. Lola was so friendly, she immediately laid on her back to be rubbed. We didn’t care that she wasn’t a kitten, we fell in love with her and her personality. We knew she was the one for us.
When we got Lola, we already had another cat, Mojo, who was six years old. Mojo, being the elder, at first made Lola play second fiddle. Not anymore. Lola is now 15 years old but still acts like a kitten. She’s so affectionate and such a good cat. I know my husband would love to adopt a dog, but I can’t do that to Lola.

LOLA IS A GOOD CAT with quite the personality.
VV: What is her favorite thing to do?
KC: Lola loves being brushed, especially her face and cheeks. When she sees the brush coming, she often gets up in her cardboard box on the perch. She also likes to ‘read’ the newspaper. If we are reading, she gets up on the paper wherever it is.
VV: What is her favorite food?
KC: Cat food only. Her food of choice is Wellness salmon and tuna. We’ve been adding more Applaws chicken and rice for her digestive tract. I think mice too. Most townhouses have mice—but not us—probably because of Lola.
VV: What would you like us to know about Lola?
KC: She has a wonderful personality. She’s a pleasant and friendly cat, not fickle she’s good with everyone.
As we were ready to go, Lola went upstairs and we heard her meow. Kelly followed and let Lola in her room. When she came back, Kelly started to sniff and said, “do you smell that? She has a habit of going up to her litter box to poop when we have company.”
I laughed and told her, “I’m a nurse practitioner. I’ve seen and smelled it all. It’s no problem for me.” We both laughed. I agree with Kelly, Lola is a good cat with quite the personality.
