TONY DAPOLITO POOL CLOSURE
Text and photo By Ede Rothaus
For the fourth consecutive year the Tony Dapolito swimming pool is closed to the public. The extremely popular pool—still affectionately referred to as “the Carmine Street pool” due to its location at the intersection of Carmine Street and Seventh Avenue South—remains under repair. With its iconic Keith Haring mural slowly fading from years of weather and its pool deck covered with dozens of tennis balls lobbed over its wall, unable to be reclaimed, combined with trash and dead leaves, the only signs of life are several saplings that have been able to establish themselves during the ensuing years. Stay tuned readers as the Village View continues its investigation of this irreplaceable West Village resource.
