On February 14, a protest was mounted at the Stonewall National Monument in Greenwich Village’s Christopher Street Park. State Senator (and candidate for Manhattan Borough President)  Brad Hoylman-Sigal released this press announcement.

“I’m especially grateful for my beautiful family — my husband, David, and our daughters, Lucy and Silvia. Love is at the heart of everything we do, and it fuels my fight for justice every single day. But today, love and equality are under attack by our federal government. The Trump Administration’s decision to erase the word transgender from the Stonewall National Monument’s website is a dark and shameful attempt to rewrite history and deny truth. This is not just a political maneuver — it is an assault on dignity, freedom, and human rights.

As the State Senator representing the Stonewall National Monument and the author of GENDA and the Transgender Safe Haven Law, I have fought tirelessly to ensure that transgender New Yorkers are protected, respected, and recognized under the law. But the fight is far from over.

MAGA extremism is ramping up its attacks, and we cannot afford to stay silent. We must push back, harder than ever, to protect the rights and humanity of LGBTQ+ people across this country and protect our transgender community from senseless attacks from the far right.”
