Your Guide to the 2025 Season in Washington Square Park
By Grace Harmon

Spring is here and Washington Square Park is buzzing back to life. As the trees leaf out and the fountain bubbles up, our 2025 calendar is overflowing with free public programming designed to delight, inspire, and bring the community together. Whether you’re seeking early-morning movement, a colorful afternoon activity, or an evening of unexpected cultural discovery, you’ll find something to love in the heart of the city.
This year’s offerings include everything from art workshops to music classes, hands-on volunteering to surprise performances. Thanks to the Washington Square Park Conservancy’s long-standing commitment to local arts and culture, the season also brings a rich array of community-produced concerts, dance, theater, and more.
Here’s a look at what to expect over the next few months.
Mornings: Peaceful, Playful, and Purposeful
There’s something special about mornings in Washington Square Park. The air is cooler, the light is softer, and the sounds of the city feel a little more gentle. It’s the perfect backdrop for a mid-week yoga session, offered every Wednesday and Friday, or for our Tuesday Adult & Senior Movement class in Garibaldi Plaza, which welcomes everyone to start the day with joyful, low-impact activity.
For little ones, Tuesday morning storytime under the trees is back, hosted in partnership with the Hudson Park Library. For those looking to give back, our second Saturday Community Clean Ups are returning. It’s a great way to kick off a feel-good weekend with a bit of light volunteering and neighborhood pride.
Afternoons: Active, Artistic, and Always Interesting
As the sun climbs, the park comes alive with sound and color. Stroll through in the early afternoon and you’ll find an entire world of drop-in activities. Learn the fine art of pétanque (think French bocce) with La Boule New Yorkaise on Mondays and Wednesdays. Stop by Street Lab’s open-air studio on the first Tuesday of the month, where rotating hands-on art activities invite spontaneous creativity. Or explore your artistic side with our visual arts workshops in Scrabble Plaza, happening every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Kids can get in on the fun too, with weekly visits to the playground by Miss Debbie on Wednesdays and the Portable Museum Project on Thursdays.
New this year, the third Thursday of the month will offer an afternoon volunteering opportunity for those who want to help out while the sun is still high.
Evenings: Unexpected, Unforgettable, and Full of Energy
When the workday ends and the sun begins to dip behind the buildings, Washington Square Park transforms. Golden light filters through the trees, musicians begin to tune up, and people linger a little longer on the benches. This is when the park’s cultural programming shines brightest.
Each Tuesday, the Museum of Interesting Things rolls in with vintage film reels, oddball inventions, and other surprises. On Wednesdays, get ready to dance as Mi Salsa Dura NY returns with the most joyful salsa party in town. Thursday nights are for jumping, with the Double Dutch Aunties teaching you the ropes, old-school New York style.
Cultural Calendar: A Season Full of Performances
For the last 10 years, the Washington Square Park Conservancy has supported local community organizations that host free cultural programming in the park, starting out as a small fund to bring much needed resources to legacy events and growing into a robust grant program that not only supports old favorites, but encourages an ever-evolving roster of cultural offerings. This year, the Conservancy is proudly supporting 17 organizations with a total of $25,000 in grant funding, bringing a wide variety of programming to the park throughout the spring, summer and fall. Washington Square Park isn’t one thing, it’s a dizzying kaleidoscope of sound and movement and action. We’re proud to support these local organizations who add so much to the fabric of our beloved park.
