Joy in the Moment

Be FOR Not Against

By Joy Pape

In thinking about fighting against something, I am reminded of a violent feeling of fighting against something versus the feeling of being FOR something.
There seems to be some ‘negative’ energy related to fighting against rather than the positive energy when considering what we’re for. Often, the outcome is much more positive too.

Mother Teresa who was FOR world peace said, “I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. was FOR world peace. He said, “World peace through nonviolent means is neither absurd nor unattainable. All other methods have failed. Thus, we must begin anew… Those of us who believe in this method can be voices of reason, sanity, and understanding amid the voices of violence, hatred and emotion. We can very well set a mood of peace out of which a system of peace can be built.”

For each of us, rather than fight certain ways of thinking that cause us discomfort, be FOR peaceful thoughts. Swap the negative thoughts, which stop us from loving one another and choose the peaceful thoughts of love and forgiveness.

My husband Brian is a man who is FOR peace and love. He had a sign on our window that said, “Fight Hate.” After discussing this, he took down the sign and threw it away. It is World Peace he and I are FOR.

It gave me joy in the moment to see that. I wish you the same.
